Amelia Sieben - Queen of the Sea​

I've always loved fish. Growing up on the Sunshine Coast in a fisherman’s family I've never not been surrounded by these slimy, cold-blooded creatures. I used to go down to the water, lean over the edge of our rickety dock and watch the tiny schools of herrings and anchovies swirl around for hours. And whether we're talking about great salmon and halibut or tiny black picklebacks, this beautiful species holds so much peace and wisdom, strength and resilience. I wanted to capture that essence in this piece, share my slightly strange obsession, and give viewers a colorful reminder of what life exists beneath our currently frozen river.
